Jiří Dienstbier – Snění o politice
As part of a conference on Jiří Dienstbier († 2011), former dissident and Czechoslovak minister of foreign affairs, Jiřina Dienstbierová announced the recipient of the financial part of the Hanno R. Ellenbogen Citizenship Award. Jiřina Dienstbierová accepted the award on behalf of Jiří Dienstbier at the award ceremony on March 12. The ceremony was held at the Parliament of Slovakia, jointly hosted by the Prague Society and the Global Panel Foundation. The award comes with a monetary prize which the recipient traditionally donates to an exceptional young person of their choice.
The financial part of Jiří Dienstbier's HRE Award was donated to fund the design and publishing of a new book, „Jiří Dienstbier – rozhlasový zpravodaj.“ Peter Duhan, the head of Czech Radio, presented this book as part of the conference held at the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Hanno R. Ellenbogen Citizenship Award is given annually to people who have dedicated their lives to public service. It was established in 2000 by the Prague Society for International Cooperation and the Global Panel Foundation. Aside from Jiří Dienstbier, this year's award was given to Wesley Clark (former US general and NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe), Andrés Pastrana (fromer President of Colombia). The recipients of their donations will be announced at a dedicated event later this Spring.
